Timor-Leste is one of Australia's closest neighbours. In terms of wealth and privilege, however, the two nations are worlds apart.
Mobile Stories explores the lives of students living in Greater Western Sydney and in Timor-Leste's capital, Dili revealing different perspectives and a common humanity.
Myself and 9 other other students from Western Sydney University travelled to Timor-Leste for 4 weeks to film and document the stories of 10 university students. During this time, I filmed and storyboarded for numerous of these projects. I directed, edited and filmed Meliana's story which is below. I learnt a lot in this time, how to work within a team and support my colleagues, be adaptable and flexible as we worked in fast past situations and to be respectful to delve in to the culture of Timorese people.

The Hidden Stories of People You May Know

Naive and sweet, young and petite, she sits quietly, pen in her hand. Watching every move of the teacher, listening to every word slip off her tongue. Grateful for this education, this day seems to be one for learning. As every moment passes, she starts to feel weary. In a flash everything changes, she’s caught in the futility of a war.

Into the rabit hole; jj

Into the Rabbit Hole is a two part docu-series. This story follows JJ, a graphic designer who has taken inspiration from their life to write a children's book. Growing up feeling like they were overly protected, JJ found a way to break out of their comfort zone to express a new side to them.
During this project, I worked alongside our director to story board and co film. I was the editor for this video and enjoyed using music to show the transitions in life that JJ was expressing.

Into the rabit hole; kezia

This installment follows Kezia, a multifaceted artist with a secret talent. This story delves into the unpredictable landscape artists need to navigate when freelancing as a creative. Kezia talks about how they seperate passion from work and how they have learnt to advocate for themselves.
During this project, I worked alongside one other videographer. We entered shoot days with a loose plan and worked on the go to get the shots. I was the editor for this project so while filming I could envision the edit in my mind. We had a tight deadline and was able to find a flow quickly.
